The deceased was accidentally burned to death at his camp at Niagara on Friday 4th August 1922. This was the verdict of the Coroner at the Inquest held at Kookynie on 8th August 1922 by Mr E Geary, Esquire, Acting R.M. He was camped near the local State Battery, of which he was caretaker. He had been in failing health for some time past but how the fire was started was not determined. In 1905, he applied for a Publican's General Licence to be conducted in the premises situated at Kookynie town lot 34, Cumberland Street Kookynie, The premises were known as the Shamrock Hotel.
