Horace had only suffered from his heart disease for some 24 hours before his death. Norah had pre-deceased him on 15 September 1903 at 394 Chapel St, South Yarra, Victor.
Horace's mother, Alice, was born in 1831 at West Ham, Essex, England. She married David Derrick, a mariner, on 30 April 1857 at Tower Hamlets, Mile End Old Town St Peter, England. They migrated to Australia, arriving 20 August 1857 at Port Phillip Bay, and their first child, Alice Mary, arrived in 1858 at Stanley, in Victoria. Horace was next, followed by Phoebe Ann in 1861 and Henry John in 1863. David died 16 April 1902 at Beechworth Hospital, Victoria, just days before his 70th birthday. His wife died 6 June 1906 at Huntly, Victoria, two days before she was due to turn 75 years of age.
