Biography

At an inquest held at Kookynie on 30 January 1904, it was stated that this young man, who was found hanging to the ridge pole of his camp at Tampa, was in Perth recently, dived into shallow water and struck his head severely against the bottom. It was thought that his mind was severely affected by the concussion. He had two brothers who were working in Kalgoorlie at the time. The deceased was the fourth of five children born to an English couple who married in Victoria in 1861 (Marriage Registration 157/1861). Their other children were: Edward Martin born 1863; Arthur born 1865; Ernest Walter born 1872; Frederick Howard in 1878; Edith Laura born 1879. Young Frederick Howard had spent 15 years living in Victoria before moving to Western Australia.
